Description

This Tater Tot Hotdish is a classic Midwestern comfort food casserole that’s perfect for a hearty and satisfying family meal. A flavorful ground beef mixture is layered with creamy soups, vegetables, and crispy tater tots, then baked to golden perfection with a generous topping of melted cheese.

Ingredients

Units Scale
  • 32 ounces frozen tater tots
  • 1 pound lean ground beef
  • 1/2 white onion, diced
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon kosher salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 2 teaspoons Worcestershire sauce
  • 1/3 cup sour cream
  • 1 can (10 ounces) condensed cheddar cheese soup
  • 1 can (10 ounces) cream of mushroom or chicken soup
  • 1 can (15.25 ounces) corn, drained
  • 1 can (14.5 ounces) green beans, drained
  • 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese, divided

Instructions

  1. Preheat and Prep: Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×13 inch baking dish with nonstick cooking spray.
  2. Brown Beef. Drain off any excess grease.
  3. Combine Ingredients: In a large bowl, combine the browned beef mixture with the sour cream, cheddar cheese soup, cream of mushroom (or chicken) soup, drained corn, drained green beans, and 1 cup of the shredded cheddar cheese. Mix well.
  4. Assemble Hotdish: Spread the beef and soup mixture into the prepared baking dish. Arrange the tater tots in an even layer over the top.
  5. Bake: Bake in the preheated oven for 50 minutes, or until the tater tots are golden brown and the casserole is bubbly.
  6. Add Cheese and Finish: Sprinkle the remaining 1 cup of shredded cheddar cheese over the hotdish and bake for an additional 5 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly. Serve hot.

Notes

  • You can substitute ground turkey or chicken for the ground beef.
  • Feel free to add other vegetables to the hotdish, such as diced carrots, peas, or mushrooms.
  • For a creamier casserole, add an extra can of cream of mushroom soup or ½ cup of milk.
  • This hotdish can be assembled ahead of time and baked when ready.
