- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1 medium onion, diced
- 1 medium bell pepper, diced
- 1 pound ground beef
- 1 (15 ounce) can tomato sauce
- 1/4 cup ketchup
- 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon chili powder
- Salt and pepper, to taste
- 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
Instructions
- Cook Pasta: Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Cook pasta according to package directions, slightly undercooking it. Drain and set aside.
- Sauté Vegetables and Brown Meat: Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Sauté onion and bell pepper until softened. Add ground beef and cook until browned, breaking it up as it cooks. Drain excess grease if necessary.
- Make Sloppy Joe Mixture: Stir in tomato sauce, ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, and chili powder. Simmer for 5 minutes to allow flavors to meld.
- Combine with Pasta: Add cooked pasta to the skillet and stir to combine. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
- Bake: Transfer the mixture to a greased 9×13 inch casserole dish. Sprinkle with shredded cheese. Bake for 20 minutes, or until cheese is melted and bubbly.
- Serve: Let the casserole sit for a few minutes before serving.
Notes
- Pasta: Use your favorite short pasta, but undercook it slightly.
- Meat: Substitute ground turkey or chicken for a leaner option.
- Spice: Add red pepper flakes or hot sauce for extra heat.
- Acidity: Balance acidity with a teaspoon of sugar, if desired.
- Storage: Refrigerate leftovers for up to 4 days.
