Scale
- 1 lb Green beans (trimmed)
- 2 tbsp Olive oil
- 1/2 tsp Garlic powder
- 1/2 tsp Sea salt
- 1/4 tsp Black pepper
- 6 cloves Garlic (peeled)
- 1/4 cup Grated parmesan cheese
Instructions
- Preheat the oven:
Preheat the oven to 400 degrees F (204 degrees C). This high temperature ensures the green beans roast quickly and develop a nice crispy exterior. - Season the green beans:
In a large bowl, toss together the green beans, olive oil, garlic powder, sea salt, and black pepper. Make sure the beans are evenly coated with the seasonings for consistent flavor. - Arrange and roast:
Arrange the green beans in a single layer on a baking sheet. Save the bowl with any oil left on the bottom for the next step. Roast for 10 minutes. This initial roasting helps the beans start to soften and absorb the flavors. - Prepare the garlic:
Meanwhile, thinly slice the garlic. Add it to the bowl from the green beans and toss with the little bit of oil in the bottom of the bowl. (You can add a teaspoon of oil if there isn’t enough to coat the garlic.) This step ensures the garlic is lightly coated in oil to prevent burning. - Add garlic and cheese:
Take the pan of green beans out of the oven, sprinkle on the sliced garlic and grated parmesan, toss and arrange in a thin layer again. Continue roasting for 5-10 more minutes (mine usually take 6-8 minutes), until the garlic starts to caramelize and the green beans are crisp-tender. - Optional broiling:
If you like the roasted green beans darker, or you want to darken the garlic more, place them under the broiler for 2 minutes. This step can add extra crispiness and caramelization to the dish.
Notes
- For perfect tender texture, avoid overcooking. The beans should be crisp-tender when done.
- To get crispy garlic, spread it evenly over the beans before the final roasting.
- Frozen green beans can be used, but may require a longer cooking time.
- Experiment with different seasonings like lemon zest, red pepper flakes, or herbs for variety.
- Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container in the fridge for 3-5 days.
- Reheat in the oven at 350°F for best results.
