Ingredients

Units Scale

Dry Ingredients

  • 1 & 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon fine sea salt

Cheese and Wet Ingredients

  • 3 cups shredded cheddar cheese, divided
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 1 large egg
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted

Topping

  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/8 teaspoon fine sea salt
  • Pinch onion powder
  • Pinch dried parsley

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Pan and Preheat
Preheat your oven to 350°F. Spray a 9×5 loaf pan with baking spray, ensuring all areas are coated evenly by using a pastry brush. Set aside.
  2. Mix Dry Ingredients
In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt until well combined.
  3. Add Cheese
Stir in the cheddar cheese, making sure it’s evenly coated with the flour mixture. Set aside.
  4. Combine Wet Ingredients
In a small bowl, whisk together the whole milk and egg. Pour this mixture into the dry ingredients and stir gently until just combined. It’s okay if there are a few dry spots.
  5. Incorporate the Butter
Add the melted butter to the batter and mix until everything is well combined and there are no remaining dry patches. Be careful not to overmix.
  6. Prepare for Baking
Pour the batter into the prepared loaf pan and smooth out the top with a spatula. Place in the oven.
  7. Bake
Bake for 35-40 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean. Check the bread at the 35-minute mark to prevent over-browning.
  8. Make the Topping
While the bread is baking, whisk together the melted butter, garlic powder, salt, onion powder, and dried parsley in a small bowl. Set aside.
  9. Cool and Apply Topping
Place the baked bread (still in the loaf pan) on a wire rack to cool slightly. Immediately brush the top of the bread with the prepared topping. Let the bread cool for 5 minutes in the pan, then transfer it to the wire rack to cool completely.
  10. Slice and Serve
Once cooled, slice the bread and serve. Enjoy this cheesy garlic bread warm for the best experience!

Notes

  • Do not overmix the batter to keep the bread light and fluffy.
  • Check the bread 5 minutes before the timer goes off to prevent over-browning.
  • Allow the bread to cool in the pan for a few minutes before transferring it to a wire rack to cool completely.
  • Experiment by substituting cheddar cheese with other varieties such as Monterey Jack or mozzarella for a different flavor profile.
  • Serve freshly baked bread warm for the ultimate cheesy experience.
