Description

These Pepperoni Pizza Rolls are a delicious and satisfying snack or appetizer that’s perfect for parties, game days, or any occasion. Homemade pizza dough is filled with a flavorful combination of pizza sauce, mozzarella cheese, and pepperoni, then rolled and baked to golden perfection.

Ingredients

Units Scale
  • 1 recipe homemade pizza dough
  • 2 teaspoons olive oil
  • 2/3 cup pizza sauce (homemade or store-bought)
  • Italian seasoning or dried basil, to taste
  • Garlic powder, to taste
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 6065 pepperoni slices
  • Optional: 1/2 cup yellow cornmeal
  • Optional: extra mozzarella cheese and fresh basil for topping

Instructions

  1. Prepare Dough: Prepare the pizza dough according to the recipe instructions. Once the dough has risen, punch it down and divide it in half. On a lightly floured surface, roll out each half into a 10×12 inch rectangle.
  2. Add Toppings: Brush the dough rectangles with olive oil and use your fingers to make small dents in the surface. Spread ⅓ cup of pizza sauce over each rectangle. Sprinkle with Italian seasoning and garlic powder. Top with ½ cup mozzarella cheese and pepperoni slices.
  3. Roll and Chill: Carefully roll up each dough rectangle into a tight log. Place the logs seam-side down on a baking sheet and refrigerate for at least 20 minutes to prevent them from falling apart when sliced.
  4. Preheat and Slice: Preheat oven to 400°F (204°C). Line two baking sheets with silicone baking mats or parchment paper. Remove the chilled logs from the refrigerator and cut each into 12 (1-inch) slices.
  5. Optional Cornmeal: Pour the cornmeal onto a plate. Dip the bottom of each pizza roll in the cornmeal.
  6. Bake: Arrange the pizza rolls cornmeal-side down on the prepared baking sheets. Sprinkle with extra cheese, if desired. Bake for 15-20 minutes, or until golden brown.
  7. Cool and Serve: Let the pizza rolls cool for 5 minutes before serving. Garnish with fresh basil and serve with extra pizza sauce for dipping.

Notes

  • Make Ahead: Prepare the rolls through step 3 and refrigerate for up to 1 day before baking. Baked pizza rolls can be frozen for up to 3 months.
  • Pizza Dough: Use your favorite homemade pizza dough recipe or store-bought dough.
  • Variations: Use whole wheat pizza dough for a healthier option. You can also bake the rolls in a muffin tin or a 9×13 inch baking pan.
