Ingredients

Units Scale

For the Muffins:

  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 tablespoon granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon fine sea salt
  • 3 cups shredded sharp cheddar cheese
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 1 large egg
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted

For the Garlic Topping:

  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/8 teaspoon fine sea salt
  • 1/8 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/8 teaspoon dried parsley

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Oven & Muffin Tin:
Preheat the oven to 375°F. Spray a muffin tin with baking spray and use a pastry brush to evenly coat the entire tin. Set it aside.
  2. Mix the Dry Ingredients:
In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, granulated sugar, baking powder, and sea salt. This ensures an even distribution of the leavening for fluffy muffins.
  3. Add the Cheese:
Stir the shredded sharp cheddar cheese into the flour mixture. Tossing the cheese with the dry ingredients prevents it from sinking to the bottom during baking.
  4. Whisk the Wet Ingredients:
In a separate bowl, whisk together the milk, egg, and melted butter until fully combined.
  5. Combine Wet & Dry Ingredients:
Pour the wet mixture over the dry mixture. Stir everything together gently until just combined. Be careful not to overmix.
  6. Fill the Muffin Tin:
Evenly divide the batter among the muffin tin sections. Fill each section to about three-quarters full.
  7. Bake the Muffins:
Place the muffin tin in the preheated oven and bake for 20-25 minutes, or until the muffins are golden brown on top and a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  8. Make the Garlic Topping:
While the muffins are baking, mix the melted butter, garlic powder, fine sea salt, onion powder, and dried parsley in a small bowl until well combined.
  9. Brush on the Garlic Butter:
Once the muffins come out of the oven, immediately brush them generously with the garlic butter mixture while they are still hot. Use all of the butter for maximum flavor!
  10. Serve Warm:
Remove the muffins from the tin and serve them warm. Enjoy the cheesy, buttery goodness!
