Hummus Base
- 1 (400 ml) can chickpeas, drained (reserve 5 tablespoons of the liquid and some chickpeas for garnish)
- ¼ cup tahini sesame paste
- ¼ cup basil pesto (plus more for garnish)
- 4 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil (plus more for garnish)
- 3 tablespoons freshly squeezed lemon juice
- 1 large clove of garlic, roughly chopped
- ½ teaspoon salt

- Reserved chickpeas
- Roasted sesame seeds
- Extra basil pesto
- Extra olive oil
Instructions
- Prepare Ingredients: Drain the chickpeas, reserving 5 tablespoons of the liquid and some whole chickpeas for garnish. Roughly chop the garlic and measure out the tahini, basil pesto, olive oil, lemon juice, and salt.
- Blend the Hummus: Place the drained chickpeas, reserved chickpea liquid, basil pesto, tahini, olive oil, lemon juice, garlic, and salt into a blender or food processor. Puree the mixture until it becomes smooth, well blended, and creamy, scraping down the sides as needed to ensure an even texture.
- Serve and Garnish: Transfer the creamy pesto hummus into a serving bowl. Drizzle additional olive oil over the top for richness. Garnish with the reserved whole chickpeas, a sprinkle of roasted sesame seeds, and a few spoonfuls of basil pesto for an attractive and flavorful finish.
