Ingredients
Scale
Strawberries
- 1 lb fresh strawberries
Chocolate Coating
- 10 oz chocolate (bittersweet, semi-sweet, milk, or white chocolate)*
- 3 oz white chocolate, optional
Decorations (optional)
- Pink gel icing color
- Sprinkles
- Oreo crumbs
- Any additional toppings
Instructions
- Prepare Strawberries: Wash the strawberries thoroughly and dry them completely using several paper towels to ensure no moisture remains, as water can prevent the chocolate from sticking properly or cause it to seize.
- Set Up Work Area: Place parchment paper on a flat surface to lay the dipped strawberries on. Prepare any desired toppings such as sprinkles or Oreo crumbs for dipping after coating the strawberries with chocolate.
- Melt Chocolate: Place the chocolate in a microwave-safe bowl and heat it in 10 to 20-second intervals while stirring well between each heating to melt the chocolate evenly using residual heat. Avoid overheating to prevent seizing or streaking.
- Dip Strawberries: Hold each strawberry by the stem and dip it into the melted chocolate, gently shaking off any excess chocolate to ensure an even coating.
- Add Toppings: Immediately after dipping, roll or sprinkle the coated strawberry in any prepared toppings, then place it on the parchment paper to set and firm up.
- White Chocolate Drizzle (Optional): Melt the white chocolate as before, adding pink gel icing color if desired. Use a piping bag or a small ziplock bag with a cut corner to drizzle the white chocolate over the dipped strawberries for decoration.
- Set and Serve: Allow the chocolate to firm completely before serving. These strawberries are best enjoyed the day they are made to avoid condensation and texture changes but can be stored for short periods carefully.
Notes
- Use high-quality baking chocolate such as Ghirardelli dark chocolate melting wafers, dark chocolate baking chips, or Baker’s baking bar chocolate for best results. Avoid regular eating chocolate or average chocolate chips as they do not melt properly.
- Ensure strawberries are completely dry before dipping to prevent chocolate seizing.
- Serve strawberries the same day for optimal freshness and appearance.
- Optional toppings can add texture and visual appeal to the strawberries.
