Description

Enjoy these cheesy beef flautas—crispy, flavorful rolled tortillas filled with seasoned ground beef, cream cheese, and pepper jack cheese. Perfectly baked, air-fried, or pan-fried, they make for a delicious appetizer or main dish, topped with your favorite condiments.

Ingredients

Units Scale

For the Taquitos

  • 1 lb lean ground beef
  • 1 (1 oz) packet taco seasoning
  • 4 ounces cream cheese
  • 1/2 cup sour cream
  • 1/2 cup salsa
  • 1 cup shredded pepper jack cheese
  • 8 flour tortillas, or corn tortillas (for taquitos)

Optional Toppings

  • Salsa
  • Tomatillo Avocado Salsa
  • Homemade Pico de Gallo
  • Sour Cream
  • Guacamole
  • Queso
  • Cilantro

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven or air fryer: Preheat your oven to 375°F or your air fryer to 350°F, depending on your preferred cooking method.
  2. Cook the beef: In a large skillet over medium-high heat, cook the ground beef, breaking it apart with a spatula until fully browned and no longer pink. Drain excess grease if necessary.
  3. Add seasoning: Stir in the taco seasoning until well combined with the beef.
  4. Add cream cheese, sour cream, and salsa: Mix in the cream cheese, sour cream, and salsa, stirring until everything is melted and heated through. Add the shredded cheese and remove from heat.
  5. Prepare tortillas: If tortillas are too stiff, microwave them for 10 seconds to soften.
  6. Assemble flautas: Place two heaping tablespoons of the filling on one side of each tortilla, then tightly roll it up. Place seam-side down on a baking sheet or appropriate tray.
  7. Cooking: For oven baking, brush rolled flautas with oil and bake for about 15 minutes until crispy. For air frying, place in the air fryer and cook at 350°F for 3-4 minutes until golden and crispy. For pan frying, add oil to a skillet and fry each flauta on all sides until golden brown and crispy, then drain on paper towels.
  8. Serve: Serve hot, topped with your favorite toppings like salsa, sour cream, guacamole, or cilantro.

Notes

  • You can use corn tortillas as a gluten-free alternative.
  • For extra crispiness, brush the rolled flautas with a little oil before baking or frying.
  • Ensure to let the flautas rest briefly after cooking to maintain crispness.
  • Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container and reheated in the oven or air fryer for best results.
