Description

This Beer Cheese Dip is a creamy, cheesy, and flavorful appetizer that’s perfect for parties, game day gatherings, or any occasion where you need a crowd-pleasing dip. Made with simple ingredients and ready in minutes, it’s a delicious and versatile dip that’s sure to be a hit.

Ingredients

Units Scale
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 3 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 3/4 cup whole milk or half-and-half
  • 2/3 cup beer
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon Dijon mustard
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 2 1/2 cups freshly shredded sharp cheddar cheese

Instructions

  1. Prep Cheese: Have your freshly shredded cheddar cheese ready to go.
  2. Make Roux: Melt the butter in a medium saucepan over medium heat. Add the flour and whisk until a thick and clumpy paste forms (about 1 minute).
  3. Add Milk: Gradually whisk in the milk until the mixture slightly thickens (about 1 minute).
  4. Add Remaining Ingredients: Remove the pan from the heat. Whisk in the beer, Worcestershire sauce, Dijon mustard, garlic powder, smoked paprika, and salt, one at a time, until smooth.
  5. Add Cheese: Add the shredded cheddar cheese and stir until melted and smooth.
  6. Serve: Pour the dip into a serving bowl and sprinkle with extra cheese, if desired. The dip will thicken as it cools. Serve warm or at room temperature with your favorite dippers, such as pretzels, crackers, bread, or vegetables.

Notes

  • Milk: Whole milk or half-and-half creates a thicker dip. Using lower-fat milk or non-dairy milk will result in a thinner dip.
  • Beer: Use your favorite type of beer.
  • Cheese: Freshly shredded sharp cheddar cheese is recommended, but you can experiment with other cheeses like pepper jack, Gouda, or Colby. Avoid very soft cheeses.
  • Spice: Add hot sauce or cayenne pepper for extra spice.
  • Storage: Store leftovers in the refrigerator for up to 1 week. Reheat on the stovetop or in the microwave before serving.
