- 1 (21 oz) can cherry pie filling
Frosting:
- 16 ounces cream cheese, softened
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1/3 cup cherry pie filling (from the can above)
- 2 1/4 cups powdered sugar
- 1 teaspoon almond extract
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Optional Garnish:
- Maraschino cherries with stems
Instructions
- Preheat and Prep: Preheat oven to 325°F (160°C). Grease a 13×9 inch baking pan.
- Combine Ingredients: In a large bowl, combine cake mix, eggs, baking powder, vanilla extract, almond extract, and cherry pie filling (reserve ⅓ cup for frosting). Beat with an electric mixer until well combined and creamy.
- Bake: Pour batter into the prepared pan and bake for 45 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean. Let cool completely.
Frosting:
- Cream Cheese and Butter: In a bowl, beat together softened cream cheese and butter until creamy.
- Add Remaining Ingredients: Add reserved cherry pie filling, almond extract, and vanilla extract. Beat until well combined. Gradually add powdered sugar and beat until smooth and fluffy.
Assemble:
- Frost and Garnish: Frost the cooled cake with the cherry cream cheese frosting. Garnish with maraschino cherries, if desired.
